4 - STROKE PETROL ENGINE

The four strokes of the Single cylinder engine are intake, compression, power, and exhaust. Each stroke completes in Half rotation of the crank; therefore, the complete cycle requires two revolutions of the crankshaft to complete. the fly wheel is used to store energy. that energy is used to rotate the crank when the engine is in other stroke ( inlet, compression , outlet ).

The diesel engine is similar to the four stroke petrol engine, but uses a different method to ignite the fuel.

  Suction Stroke
During the intake stroke, the piston moves downward, the Inlet valve is open and Exhaust valve is remains closed,so the vaccum is created inside the cylinder.the fuel/air mixture is sucked through the inlet pipe. Some early engines worked this way; however, most modern engines incorporate an extra cam/lifter arrangement as seen on the exhaust valve. The exhaust valve is held shut by a spring.

  Compression Stroke
At the end of the Suction Stroke the piston is at Bottom Dead Center. Then the piston rises, the poppet valve is forced shut by the increased cylinder pressure. In this Stroke both the Inlet valve and Exhaust valve are closed tightly by means of spring action.then the compression takes place due to the upward movement of the piston. At hte end of the Compression stroke the Piston is at Top Dead Center.so one revolution of the crank is completed.

  Power Stroke
At the end of the compression stroke, the spark is produced by means of a Spark plug. Due to that igniting is takes place and expands, so Piston moves Downwards.this Stroke is called Power Stroke.this energy is stored in fly wheel and this energy used to rotate the crank during other stroke like Suction,Compression.the Inlet valve and Exhaust valve are remains closed as same as Compression Stroke.

  Exhaust Stroke
At the end of the power stroke, the Piston is at Bottom Dead Center.so the exhaust valve is opened by the cam/lifter mechanism. The upward stroke of the piston push out the exhaust or burnt gases out to the Atmosphere from the cylinder.

  Ignition System
ignition system of a single cylinder Petrol engine
This ignition system using breaker points, coil, condenser, cam and battery and Step up Transformer.
In this ignition `System, the spark plug will fire just as the breaker points open.the crank moves to power Stroke it rotates the Cam .Due to the cam rotation the ignition is takes place by means of a Breakers.
the Condenser is used to Protect the Parts from High Voltage
